Chris Buck (born October 25, 1960) is an American film director known for co-directing films such as Tarzan, Surf's Up, and Frozen.

Personal life[]

Buck is a native from Wichita, Kansas. When he was older, he studied character animation at CalArts. He also taught there from 1988 to 1993.

Buck took the Oh My Disney quiz. He gave answers from little known facts about him, to his favorite things in Disney.

Career[]

Buck worked with several Disney movies. In the 1995 feature Pocahontas, he oversaw the animation of the three central characters: Percy, Grandmother Willow, and Wiggins. He helped design characters in The Little Mermaid. He also performed experimental animation in The Rescuers Down Under and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He was also an animator in The Fox and the Hound. In late 2009, he was put in charge Disney's long-in-development film adaptation of The Snow Queen, which ultimately became Frozen in 2011 after being put on hold. It was later released on November 22, 2013.

At Hyperion Pictures, Buck helped develop several films. He served as a directing animator in the feature Bebe's Kids. He worked with Tim Burton as storyboard director for the live-action feature Frankenweenie, as directing animator on the Family Dog episode of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, and as director of the subsequent prime-time animated series.

Other credits for Buck include a number of animated commercials.

Trivia[]

  • His favorite character in Frozen is Olaf.
  • He states in "D'frosted: Disney's Journey from Hans Christian Andersen to Frozen" that despite its differences, the main theme of Frozen is still based on The Snow Queen: "love conquers negativity," with negativity referring more specifically to fear.
